![]() ![]() “Pools have been harder to find than toilet paper.” Andrew Bari, owner of Westrock Pool and Spa, which has served the Hudson Valley area for over fifty years, says that they are currently taking orders for 2021, because of “huge demand.” While Vineberg says that pools are sold out pretty much everywhere, you can occasionally get lucky by continuously checking for stock updates on online retailers like The Pool Factory (which he says is his favorite because it’s the easiest to navigate and has the best selection). “So many people have had to change their summer plans with summer camps closed and beaches allowing limited visitors,” explains Barry Vineberg, owner of Long Island Swim-Pool Service, who told us that he noticed a surge in demand starting the last week of March going into early April. While we’ve been tracking the growing popularity of kiddie pools and splash pads and stock tank pools, lots of people are looking for a more permanent solution: The aboveground pool, a long-time suburban staple, is suddenly quite in demand. While it may be tempting to get the biggest above-ground pool you can fit, be sure to leave room for other elements you may enjoy as well.With most water parks and public pools closed, and the inevitable heat wave on the horizon, you may be trying to find ways to stay cool outside. Keep in mind that you may want to leave extra space in your backyard for things like lawn chairs or beach chairs, a table, an umbrella and a garden.Otherwise, you may have to do some landscaping to create a flat surface that your pool can stand on. If your backyard is severely sloped (more than 2 to 3 feet from one end to the other), your only option for an above-ground pool is one with a galvanized steel frame.They offer a smaller, more temporary solution that is great for cooling down kids and letting them splash to their hearts’ content. Galvanized steel frames can be more costly, but can also be fully sunk into the ground for more stability. Metal frames are typically the most affordable, while resin frames are much less susceptible to rust. You have a few options when it comes to frames for your above-ground pool: metal, resin or galvanized steel.Longer rectangular ones may also allow you to swim laps. Oval or rectangular pools are often smaller than round ones, but their long profiles make them easier to fit into many spaces. Round pools are relatively affordable, but can be difficult to fit into small areas. Be sure to also consider the slope in your yard, as flat ground is ideal for above-ground pools.Ībove-ground pools typically come in a few basic shapes: round, oval and rectangular. In some cases, you may need to remove certain elements, such as gardens or play structures. Determine how big your backyard is and how much of it you can actually dedicate to an above-ground pool. With so many different types of above ground pools to choose from, though, how do you begin to shop for one?īefore you can figure out what kind of above-ground pool you need, consider your space. You can avoid the drive to the community pool while still getting all the health benefits and relaxation of swimming.
